The Government of the Autonomous Region of the Azores reinforced its commitment to teaching reading by signing a new protocol with Iniciativa Educação, which provides for the expansion of the AaZ - Ler Melhor, Saber Mais program to the 9 islands of the archipelago.

The signing of the agreement took place on June 8, 2021 at Palácio de Sant'Ana, in Ponta Delgada, and was attended by the President of the Regional Government of the Azores, José Manuel Bolieiro, and the President of Iniciativa Educação, Nuno Crato. Also present, in addition to other representatives of the two institutions, were the Regional Secretary for Education, Sofia Ribeiro, and Inês Soares dos Santos Canas, member of the Board of Directors of Iniciativa Educação.

The AaZ - Ler Melhor, Saber Mais program is Iniciativa Educação's program aimed at helping 1st and 2nd graders with reading and writing difficulties. Ongoing in the Azores archipelago since February 2020, on the islands of São Miguel and Santa Maria, the program is developed in partnership with the University of Minho and has a team of specialists and experts who, together with the tutors, evaluate and systematically analyze the evolution of each student
