ED_ON is a public information program aimed at everyone with an interest in education. Education Initiative uses ED_ON to promote scientific knowledge about education: articles and reviews of statistical and multimedia publications that are curated by reputable scholars and made available in an intuitive and open access portal available at iniciativaeducacao.org.

Goals

ED_ON aims to fight the shortage of objective and science-based information about education - fundamental to everyone, young or old, who wants to reason and reflect about education in a modern and open fashion.

Methodology

ED_ON will gather and publish information about three key topics:

  • cognitive psychology and learning: what we know about the learning processes, and how to apply this knowledge in schools and other learning environments

  • economics of education: the study of various measurable issues related to education, such as the impact of class size in learning outcomes

  • statistics about education: a selection of statistics that improve our knowledge of the education system

School Year 2022/2023

In the 2022/2023 school year, the production of scientific dissemination content has remained the main focus of the ED_ON program. As of August 2023, 25 articles, 24 podcast episodes and 5 expert interview videos had been published.

In January 2023, Iniciativa Educação signed a memorandum of agreement with the French National Education Scientific Council (CSEN) stating out intent to disseminate articles and other scientific resources on best educational practices. This agreement declares our specific commitment to translate and disseminate content produced by CSEN in Portugal. The first publication, a file on explicit teaching, was published in the same week the memorandum was signed. Since then, efforts have been made to identify and work on other topics of interest to the Portuguese public.

Also in January, a new video series entitled Listen to the experts: Education as seen by great authors was launched. Daisy Christodoulou, Daniel T. Willingham, Dylan Wiliam, Paul A. Kirschner e Eric A. Hanushek were invited as guests. Interviews were released bi-weekly between January and March 2023.
